For the first time ever, the national Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) held the 2016 Community Transportation EXPOin Portland this year (May 23-27).  This was a wonderful opportunity for members of the Oregon public transportation community who wouldn’t normally be able to attend such a national conference elsewhere. However, even without high travel costs, registration fees for the EXPO could be challenging for many agencies.

After receiving many scholarship inquiries to attend the CTAA Expo, and realizing that Oregon’s total available training funds wouldn’t be sufficient to provide assistance for both the Expo and the annual Oregon Public Transportation Conference, the OTA Board of Directors and our partner ODOT Rail and Public Transit Division made the decision to forego the Oregon Public Transportation Conference this year.

Given the depth and breadth of quality topics and speakers, and the location of the conference, OTA and ODOT Rail and Public Transit Division (and after consultation with the Public Transportation Advisory Committee), decided to concentrate all training scholarships for 2016 on supporting and encouraging attendance at the CTAA EXPO.

Please note, that this will only be a one-time situation and the Oregon Public Transportation Conference will be back on October 1-4, 2017 at a new location, the Pendleton Conference Center, in Pendleton.
